"Great Sword!" of the "Mythic Beauties" series by Jay French. This scantily clad paladin surely has a bigger sword than thou!

Great pic!!
Very sexy.

Looking for a way to liven up that giant sword?

Check out Skallagrim: Zweihander,
On YouTube.
Uhh...
"Montante" was it??

Any way, some extremely useful tips on the usage of the Zweihander, (which I'm studying, for authenticity's sake on character design)

Thanks, PoisonSword! I studied a lot of photos of steel, especially sword blades to see how they treated light. One of the tricks is to pick up colors from objects that would be reflecting on the different surfaces of the blade, such as the sky color, the leather gauntlets & boots (which you'll notice right under the handguard and at the bottom of the blade), and even the yellow sun beams.
Since this was a digital painting, I had some easy advantages for details, such as taking the entire image, flipping it & masking it in the blade softly, then blurring to get some actual object reflection. I finalized with that glare.
Hope that helps!

How did you make the sword get that reflective property?
I like how you did it, and I'd like to try it for myself.

You're one of the only artists I've ever seen that actually used a zweihander in a picture of a warrior! It's one of the most awesome swords in the world, but very few artists ever use them. Mitch Foust did a picture of the character from my book, Ariana Moonstone, and she wields a zweihander... this is awesome work here. I'll be checking back to see what else you do!

Thanks! And agreed about the zweihander. I think it was actually the sword that inspired the entire image. I always prefer to depict lesser known weapons whenever possible.
...Now if only I could get my hands on a real one for my sword collection.

Thanky muchly!
I get a very split audience on this one. People seem to love it or hate it (or find it lacking, I should say). This is the 3rd rendition of this one where I finally feel I got her face the way I wanted it. The original had more of a smirk.
Enjoy!

Hmmm... I'd have loved to see the earlier renditions just to see the progress. Alas... :giggle: What was it that people said it was lacking (and what are their addresses...lol)??

Here's the 2nd version (The final being the 3rd):

I've lost the original (it was mostly just further away, showing her entire body and the grass she was standing on). Pretty big difference, though, eh?
Thanks again!

:painter: Well, I'll grant you that there are definite improvements in the execution of this final version, but personally I see that part of a piece as a fairly small part of its over-all merit. Even in the original you've got such a wonderful sense of attitude that I adore - as if she's very nonchalantly saying "Yeah, I am one tough cookie... Wanna make something of it?" Love light glinting off the metal, the rogue strand of hair (which is probably the single bane of her existence, rather than a fashion choice - haha!), and the casual hanging-on-the-sword stance coupled with the sexy (and she knows it) sweep of the hip and sultry eyes... Fantastic!

Oh, good choice to make the breastplates larger...

Tankew again!
Yes, the larger breastplates was one of the first things (other than her face) that I wanted to fix. I noticed that the smaller plates actually made her breasts look smaller than they did in the uncensored version. I thought the Boris Vallejo-style "pasties" always looked silly (except on the succubus).
Thanks again!
